Whaplode Church Of England Primary School with a 1 form entry. Presently we have 201 pupils on role. These are split between 7 single age phase classes. The pupil premium funding for 2016/17 was based on 189 children on roll and 47 pupils attracting funding.
All members of staff, governors and teaching assistants accept responsibility for ‘socially disadvantaged’ pupils and are committed to meeting their pastoral, social and academic needs within the school environment.
Whaplode Church of England Primary School is committed to ‘Narrowing the Gap’ between vulnerable pupils and their peers. The pupil premium will form a vital part of that process. The governors reserve the right to allocate the pupil premium funding to support any pupils or groups of pupils the school has legitimately identified as being socially disadvantaged.
Provision will be made through:
- Supporting pupils’ access to education
- Supporting pupils’ access to the curriculum
- Alternative support and intervention where appropriate within the school environment
Reporting Pupil Premium
It is the responsibility of the governors to explain pupil premium expenditure to parents/carers in the form of an annual statement. There is no set format for the report of pupil premium. Whaplode Church of England Primary School will publish details of a report online annually.
This report aims to detail information on how Pupil Premium has been used within the School. This report will detail the attainment and progress of pupils at particular points in their primary education, who are covered by the premium and the intervention that has been supported by the additional funding.
Reports will also detail the progress made towards narrowing the gap and this will be supported by reported data and academic progress. Regular reports will be presented on the progress of pupils supported by Pupil Premium to the Governing Body at Whaplode C Of E Primary School.
Reporting to Parents
Parents/carers will be able to obtain information on the pupil premium via the school’s website. This will be updated annually.
Responsibility for reporting:
The responsibility for the report will given to the Head Teacher and Senior Leadership team who will be asked to report on the intervention in place for key pupils and the impact that intervention has had.
What is the Pupil Premium Grant (PPG)?
The PPG was introduced in April 2011. It is allocated funding from the Government for low income families who have been eligible for free school meals (EFSM) during the last 6 years or for children who have been looked after (LAC) continuously for more than six months.

At Whaplode Church of England Primary School:
- We ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all pupils.
- We ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups, this includes ensuring the need of socially disadvantaged pupils are adequately assessed and addressed
- In making provision for socially disadvantaged pupils, we recognize that not all pupils who receive free meals will be socially disadvantaged
- We also recognize that not all pupils who are socially disadvantaged are registered or qualify for free school meals. We reserve the right to allocate Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil or groups of pupils the school has legitimately identified as being socially disadvantaged.
- Pupil Premium funding will be located following a needs analysis which will identify priority classes, groups, individuals. Limited funding resources means that not all children receiving free school meals will be in receipt of pupil premium interventions at any one time.
- The range of provision the school has used the PPF allocation includes:
- Pupils developing positive self image and become confident/responsible learners. (Inspire Believe Achieve)
- Accelerating progress – closing attainment and achievement gap with highly focused targeted intervention in reading, writing and mathematics. Achieve at east age related expectations and to ensure good personal progress
- Provision and funding of social skills, behaviour support and extra curricular opportunities as well as the core curriculum
- Ensuring more able pupils achieve high end levels above the national standard.
- Ensuring the personal, spiritual, moral and social, development of each pupil is a high priority.
The impact for PPF has been:
Pupils have benefited from the enrichment of the learning environment and pastoral support on offer. Improved attendance along with improved self esteem and self-image have led to gains for many of these pupils. Ofsted stated that the gaps are closing and all groups of pupils make good progress.
