On Friday 19th May, Year 3 and Year 4 children attended a football tournament which was organised by Elite Sports. There were a selection of children who have been training together since the beginning of the year. The weather was horrendous, but thanks to the parents, we had enough umbrellas to keep the children relatively dry.
When we arrived, we were placed into a difficult group consisting of Ayscoughfee, Baston and St. Bartholomew's schools. These were particularly hard teams to be faced against. In the knockout stages, we won two of the games and lost one. We scored some sublime goals and there was some fantastic defending and goalkeeping throughout these games.
After we survived the rain, we went indoors to have our lunch. From there, we found out about the afternoon fixtures. We were competing for the gold cup as we finished second in the group stages. However, it became apparent that we would be facing Linchfield. This team would later go on to win the tournament. We unfortunately lost this game 2-0. The coaches said that we put up a good fight.
However, there was one more fixture to play. We had a friendly against Ayscoughfee who beat us in the morning. We took the lead 1-0 through a fantastic goal. Then Ayscoughfee levelled the game to 1-1. It finished as this, which was a great result for all who were involved.
I would also like to say a massive thank you to all the parents who came to cheer on their children. They were fully supportive and really helped in cheering everybody on and helping in-between games.
Hopefully next year, we can get to the finals and hope for better weather.
