Whaplode Swimming Pool Committee

Whaplode Swimming Pool Committee was set up in the 1970’s with the aim of raising money to run, organise and maintain our pool. One of its first tasks was to raise funds to improve swimming lessons by commissioning a covered building for the pool, the one that is still there today, and the pool itself was re-built in 1990.

We are a registered charity (Charity No.1056670) and the aims have not changed to this day, and every child has the chance to learn to swim. The pool is used mainly during the summer term where all year groups will swim at least once a week.

In July 2023, 86% of our year 6 children could swim in excess 25m.

Our swimming season starts after the Easter holidays and continues to the end of July each year.  All classes swim once a week, and we also offer after school swimming lessons – learning water skills, strokes and safety.  Certificates are awarded each week for ‘Super Swimmers’ and distance certificates are presented at the end of the summer term.  Children in key stage 2 also swim once a week during September and October, weather permitting.

Whaplode Swimming Academy

Whaplode Primary School is registered with the ASA charter mark Taking School Swimming Seriously.  This has been incorporated into the school swimming lessons so pupils can achieve certificates associated with this charter mark.  As well as pupils achieving distance swimming badges they will also achieve The ASA School Swimming Award Certificate.
